Abstract

The aim of the study was to highlight the main achievements through the contributions made by the Society of Hygienists in the Republic of Moldova and outlining the main tasks for strengthening public health.

Materials and Methods. Descriptive, historical, and analytical methods were applied. Materials from national and international congresses and conferences, symposia with direct participation of hygienists, and reports on the activities of SIRM over more than 60 years were evaluated.

Results. Between 1961 and 2024, the Society of Hygienists in the Republic of Moldova organized numerous scientific events in various fields of hygiene. Over 85 doctoral and postdoctoral theses in medical sciences have been supported. SIRM includes 3 full members of the Moldovan Academy of Medical Sciences, including Gheorghe Tîbârnă, 9 doctors habilitated in medical sciences, 25 doctors in medical sciences, and 23 specialists holding a master's degree in public health. Specialists and scientists in hygiene have published numerous monographs, practical guides, and methodological recommendations and have received a significant number of medals and diplomas at national and international invention exhibitions. They have made substantial contributions to improving the quality of regulations in the field.

Conclusions. Members of the Society of Hygienists in the Republic of Moldova have demonstrated professionalism, perseverance, enthusiasm, and integrity over more than 60 years of activity. Graduates from the Hygiene and Sanitation/Preventive Medicine/Public Health Faculty, regardless of their workplace — whether within the National Agency for Public Health or the Department of Hygiene within the Preventive Medicine Department at Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, or elsewhere — remain active, full-fledged members of the Society of Hygienists in the Republic of Moldova. The Society continues to seek new projects and national and international collaboration agreements.
